NOW TAKING APPLICATIONS FOR ELDERLY/ DISABLED PROPERTY TAX CREDIT

Due to a recent legislative change by the Iowa Legislature, eligibility for the Elderly Property Tax Credit was expanded on the basis of household income for those over 70 years old. Under the new rules, those who were previously unable to claim the credit due to having too high of an income may now qualify for the credit on next year’s tax bill and in subsequent years.

Those aged 70 and older must continue to file for the credit each year to receive the maximum benefit of the new tax credit calculation.

The Mitchell County Treasurer’s Office is now accepting applications for the Elderly and Disabled Tax Credit through September 30.

Eligible Mitchell County Citizens should submit their completed applications to the Mitchell County Treasurer’s Office at 212 S. 5th Street, Osage, IA  50461 Applications submitted this year will be applied to next year’s tax bill.
